The Future of Work for All
Migration is a global and complex matter that requires a changemaking mindset, companies have a key role to play and collaboration of multiple stakeholders across borders is needed. Imagine a world where employers are fully equipped to facilitate the employment of migrant talents and their professional growth, as well as nurture a welcoming culture where all employees share a sense of belonging.
ACCELERATING THE FIELD of Migrant Employment
September, 2022 - The collaboration between Ashoka, Singa and Embark Project was sparked through a multi-stakeholder system change journey. Our joint initiative aims to leverage our collective expertise in migration, social impact and organizational transformation. Collectively, we focus our work on co-creating inclusive workspaces in partnership with corporate leaders.
Expanding Labour Migration to Europe
February, 2021- In late 2020, the European Commission released its New Pact on Migration and Asylum. The Pact has many laudable goals, including increasing labour migration from third countries to plug skills gaps across Europe and create regular pathways for migration. The Pact proposes legislative reforms including revisions to existing skills migration schemes, such as the Blue Card, Long-Term Residents Directive, and the Single Permit Directive, and proposes new non-legislative initiatives, such as the EU Talent Pool and Talent Partnerships. The European Parliament is also expected to come up with its report on New Avenues for Labour Migration in the next months.
Yet, in reality, legal migration is a shared competency between Member States and the EU. The responsibility for determining numbers of labour migrants who can enter a Member State and for granting visas/permits rests firmly in the competence of Member States. Given this, what role should the European Union play in revising and establishing new pathways for labour migration? And how can actors such as cities, local communities, the private sector and businesses, migrant rights associations, trade unions, and diaspora groups contribute?
This joint event by the Center for Global Development (CGD), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), PorCausa Foundation, and Hello Europe, will bring together actor representatives to reflect on these questions. It will give ample time for discussion as to the concrete role these actors can play in promoting more legal labour migration from third countries to Europe in the years to come, and chart a way forward.
Co-CREATING INCLUSIVE WORKSPACES TOGETHER
February, 2023 - As the first step, we brought together 60 global corporations, top social entrepreneurs, and newcomers to convene the migrant workforce ecosystem in Munich. We brainstormed on solutions to improve Sourcing, Hiring and Onboarding, Culture and Governance, while discovering our individual changemaking and unleashing our collective power.
SYSTEMIC APPROACH
Building on the Hello Europe network, expertise and know-how, we initially brought together change leaders representing key stakeholders in the sector of Migrant Entrepreneurship and Employment to think about root causes and potential solutions in a systemic way.
Dive deeper into the framework that laid the foundation for this work in our latest report here.
